Avanture Sherlocka Holmesa ili Zarobljen radi ucjene jest američki nijemi film iz 1905. koji je režirao J. Stuart Blackton za Vitagraph Studios.[1] To je bio drugi film zasnovan na pripovijetkama sir Arthura Conana Doylea o Sherlocku Holmesu, nakon Mutoscopeovog Zbunjenog Sherlocka Holmesa iz 1900. i obično se smatra prvim pokušajem "ozbiljnije" filmske adaptacije Holmesa.[2][3] Scenario je napisao Theodore Liebler Jr. na osnovu Doyleovog romana Znak četvorice.[4]

Pušten je u promet 7. oktobra 1905. Glavne uloge tumačili su Maurice Costello (Holmes), H. Kyrle Bellew (dr. Watson) i J. Barney Sherry (neimenovana uloga). To je bilo Costellovo prvo pojavljivanje na ekranu, a njega će kasnije smatrati jednim od prvih tzv. "idola matineje".[2] Robert Pohle primijetio je da je, "lišen svoga glasa u onim ranim nijemim filmovima, Holmes također transformiran iz intelektualnog detektiva zavaljenog u fotelju u dinamičniji akcijski lik - gotovo u vrstu kauboja s kapom za lov na jelene".[5]

Iako ponekad smatran izgubljenim filmom, fragmenti još postoje u zbirci papirnih ispisa u Kongresnoj biblioteci.[6][7] Film je snimljen na 35-milimetarskom crno-bijelom filmu u jednoj rolni dužine 221 m.[4]
