The Joshua Tree je peti studijski album irskog rock sastava U2. Izdala ga je kuća Island Records 1987. godine. Kao kontrast eksperimentiranju s ambijentom u prethodnom albumu, The Unforgettable Fire (iz 1984.), U2 su tražili snažniji zvuk unutar granica konvencionalne strukture pjesama u albumu "The Joshua Tree". Na album su utjecale američka i irska folklorna glazba. Kroz socio-politički svjesne tekstove potkrijepljene duhovnim slikama, The Joshua Tree naglašava kontrast bendove antipatije prema "stvarnoj Americi" i fascinacije "mitskom Amerikom".

Inspirirani iskustvima s turneje po Americi, američkom književnošću i politikom, U2 su odabrali Ameriku kao temu albuma. Snimanje je počelo u siječnju/januaru 1986. u Irskoj, i to u dvije kuće kako bi se stvorila opuštena i kreativna atmosfera. Nekoliko događaja tijekom snimanja je utjecalo na svjesni ton albuma, uključujući bendovo sudjelovanje u humanitarnim koncertima A Conspiracy of Hope za Amnesty International, smrt člana koncertnog osoblja Grega Carrolla i Bonova putovanja u Središnju Ameriku. Snimanje je završeno u studenom/novembru 1986., a dodatna produkcija se nastavila do siječnja/januara 1987. Tijekom snimanja, U2 su tražili "filmsku" kvalitetu albuma, koja bi konkretno izazvala osjećaj smještaja u otvorene prostore SAD-a. Prikazali su to na slikama omota, gdje se članovi benda nalaze u američkim pustinjama.

The Joshua Tree je bio hvaljen od strane kritičara, popevši se na vrhove top ljestvica u 20 zemalja, i postao najbrže prodavani album u britanskoj historiji. Prema časopisu Rolling Stone, ovaj je album podigao bendov status "od heroja do superzvijezda". Iz njega su proizašli singlovi "With or Without You", "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" i "Where the Streets Have No Name", od čega su prva dva postala U2-ova jedina dva singla koja su u SAD-u došla na prvo mjesto. Album je nagrađen Grammy nagradama u kategorijama albuma godine i najbolje rock izvedbe dueta ili grupe s vokalom 1988. godine. Album je pratila The Joshua Tree turneja 1987. godine.

Album se često spominje u popisima najboljih albuma kritičara. The Joshua Tree je jedan od najbolje prodavanih albuma na svijetu s preko 25 milijuna prodanih primjeraka. U2 je obilježio 20. obljetnicu izlaska albuma remasteriranim izdanjem, a 30. obljetnicu turnejom i reizdanjem. Američka Kongresna biblioteka je album smatrala "kulturno, historijski ili estetski važnim" i razmotrila za čuvanje u Nacionalnom registru audiozapisa.
