Richard Ewing "Dick" Powell (14. novembar 1904 – 2. januar 1963.) bio je američki pjevač, glumac, producent, režiser i šef studija.

Biografija

Powell je 1920-ih započeo pjevačku karijeru u orkestrima na Srednjem Zapadu. Kada je Warner Bros godine 1930. otkupio njegovu izdavačku kuću, Powell je postao zvijezda popularnih filmskih mjuzikala. Iako uspješan u laganim ulogama romantičnih junaka, Powell je žudio za širim repertoarom, ali mu je to uspjelo tek 1940-ih kada je glumio "tvrdokuhanog" privatnog detektiva Philipa Marlowea u Murder My Sweet. Slijedile su zapažene uloge u film noirima.

1950-ih se Powell počeo baviti televizijskom produkcijom, a kasnije i režijom. Njegov najpoznatiji film je podmornička drama The Enemy Below 1957. godine. Njegove TV-antologije Dick Powell's Zane Grey Theater i The Dick Powell Show su postale podloga za nekoliko uspješnih TV-serija, i postale odskočna daska za karijeru Aarona Spellinga.

1956. je bio snimio The Conqueror, historijski film o Džingis Kanu s Johnom Wayneom u glavnoj ulozi. Snimanje je obavljeno na lokaciji gdje se prethodno - bez znanja filmske ekipe - obavljalo testiranje atomskih bombi. Nakon snimanja su mnogi ćlanovi ekipe, uključujući Waynea, oboljeli od raka.
