David Hackett Souter (fonetski: Dejvid Heket Suter; 17. septembar 1939 -) je američki pravnik najpoznatiji po tome što je služio kao pridruženi sudija Vrhovnog suda SAD od 1990. do umirovljenja 29. juna 2009. Jedini je sudija Vrhovnog suda koji je imao dugotrajna sudska iskustva izvan sistema američkog federalnog pravosuđa [3], služeći umjesto toga kao tužitelj, ministar pravde i sudija na redovnim i višim sudovima države New Hampshire. U Vrhovni sud je imenovan od strane republikanskog predsjednika Georgea H. W. Busha na mjesto ispražnjeno od strane sudije William J. Brennna, i tada je uživao reputaciju konzervativca. Međutim, tokom prakse u Rehnquistovom i Robertsovom sudu[4] je Souter brzo izgradio reputaciju liberala koji pripada njihovim liberalnim manjinama.[3] Souter je 2009. najavio kako se povlači iz Suda nakon čega je predsjednik Barack Obama imenovao Sonyu Sotomayor kao njegovu nasljednicu.[5]
