Pada zaman klasik, para penulis seperti Herodotus,^[1] Plato,^[2] Xenophon,^[3] Athenaeus^[4] dan beberapa orang lainnya menyoroti aspek-aspek Homoseksualitas di Yunani. Bentuk paling signifikan secara sosial dan paling menyebar dari hubungan seksual sesama jenis di Yunani kuno adalah antara pria dewasa dan laki-laki remaja atau akil balikh, yan dikenal sebagai pederasti (perkawinan di Yunani Kuno antara pria dan wanita juga diatur menurut usia, dengan pria berusia tiga puluhan mengambil istri berusia remaja awal).^[5]
